How disgusting.
To burn the American Flag, considering all the people out there fighting for your lives. This is coming from someone who has family members and friends serving our country, dying for this flag and sadly, for your freedom to just burn it like that.How disrespectful.
I think its more disrespectful that you would use their sacrifice as an excuse to prioritize a flag over people’s humanity. Now their “citizens” with lives worth fighting for, but before they were thugs and it was okay to donate money to their murderers, limit their right to assemble and protest, treat them like enemy combatants in their own country.
This is coming from someone who has had family and friends serve for generation after generation only to return to a place where those freedoms were never recognized in the first place. They aren’t fighting for some abstract symbol of “freedom” that most of them don’t even have access to. Burning a flag that symbolizes a system built on their back is justified. Frankly, if people want to cry about people burning that flag, maybe they should start actually acting like they want to be what that flag represents. Cause ya’ll have had long enough, and its put up or shut up time.
As someone who HAS actually served, using mine and other veterans’ personal sacrifices and service as your fucking pedestal of misplaced indignation is more insulting than burning some fucking polyester fabric.
There are veterans from several eras of America’s ‘wars’ protesting in the streets of Ferguson right now, speaking out against the corrupt system they once served. There are veterans taking to Twitter, to Facebook, to the PRESS to speak out against America’s treatment of its citizens. We didn’t swear an oath for THIS type of shit to happen to the people we thought we were defending. That’s not what the fuck any of us signed up for. But we DID swear an oath to defend against all enemies foreign AND domestic, and right now, the police are behaving like domestic terrorists so shut the entire fuck up.
As a service member it hurts me to see something like this. Go live in a third world country and then come back and tell me how bad America is. You don’t know what you have until it’s gone. 170 people were executed a couple months ago for going to school.

Mike Brown was EXECUTED for crossing the GODDAMN STREET. His killer hasn’t even been charged, indicted, NOTHING. His killer in on PAID ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE. His supporters have raised nearly half a million dollars in donations for NO OTHER REASON OTHER THAN TO REWARD HIM. He doesn’t need the money.
Trayvon was executed for WALKING HOME. His killer has the nerve to walk around, bold-faced and fucking free as a bird. His killer sells paintings on eBay for thousands of dollars. He gets TV spots and signs autographs.
Like you really gonna spit on your own citizens’ deaths like that with that “well go live somewhere else” rhetoric? Are you really swallowing that bullshit patriotic rhetoric the military feeds you everyday about how great America is and how it’s our privilege to serve our country? I get it…the environment is pressure. You don’t wanna speak out against obvious horseshit and alienate yourself from your fellow service members at where ever you’re stationed and risk gridlocking your career. I get it. I bought into that shit while I was in too just to get through the Navy without having to deal with alienation on top of a host of other cesspool -isms the military is rife with. But you not gonna do that here.
I grew up in Nigeria. I’ve lived in other poor countries. I know how “good” I have it in America…and burning the flag is not a big deal when people are protesting OBVIOUS injustices in the American system.
